Standing Bodyguard, facing a mirror

Bodyguard — the standing embrace — is already in our named positions glossary: both partners stand facing the same direction, pressed close together, the receiving partner leaning back against the other's chest with an arm wrapped around from behind. The version we keep coming back to just adds one thing — doing it facing a mirror, close enough to actually see each other rather than treating the mirror as an afterthought.

Standing Bodyguard, facing a mirror — close contact, both partners' hands still free.

What makes this specific combination work isn't really about the mirror as a novelty — it's what the standing, chest-to-back setup leaves available. The receiving partner's front is completely open, and so are both partners' hands, which is what actually makes the rest of this worth writing up.

Why it's a favorite: the angle gives genuinely good pressure for the receiving partner without either person needing to hold an awkward position. Her hands are free to hold a rose toy against the front for direct stimulation, and with her arms occupied there, his hands are free too — for us, that's meant using them on her breasts at the same time rather than choosing one or the other. The mirror adds a real visual element on top of that, but it's the free hands that make the combination work, not the glass.

Why we're not overselling the mirror part

Standing Bodyguard works fine without a mirror in the room — most people trying this for the first time won't have one conveniently placed at the right height anyway, and that's genuinely fine. The mirror is a nice addition if the setup allows for it, not a requirement; the toy and the free hands are what actually make the position worth returning to.

What to know before trying it

Lazy Cowgirl

The receiving partner stays on top, but lies fully forward onto the other partner's chest instead of sitting upright — legs extended flat rather than kneeling, full-body contact the whole way through. It's cowgirl with the sitting-up effort removed: the other partner can still meet the movement with their hips, but neither person is holding themselves up or balancing.

Why it's a favorite: it's the version of cowgirl that works when nobody wants to do any actual work — full skin contact, easy to kiss or talk through, and it holds up for longer sessions since neither partner is bracing or balancing. Trades some depth and pace control for that, which is a fair trade on a lazy night.

Kneeling Groundhog

The receiving partner rests her head, chest, and forearms on the floor with her hips raised high, while he kneels tall behind her, hands on her lower back, drawing her raised hips against his lap — her legs running alongside his thighs the whole way through. It's what we call Kneeling Groundhog in our glossary, and the chest-down, hips-high posture puts a real arch through her spine and hips, so we always ease into it gradually rather than dropping straight into the full position.

Why it's a favorite: This one's stayed on the list because of how deep and controlled it feels for him — he's upright, steady, and setting the pace entirely from the hips. For her it's genuinely low effort once she's settled into the arch; she's not holding herself up on her arms so much as resting into the position, which means the depth doesn't cost her anything.

Kneeling Sideways Doggy Style

He kneels upright with both knees down while she lies perpendicular to him, twisted sideways — shoulders, head, and upper back on the floor, hips rolled toward him and raised onto his lap. Her legs extend together across his front, one arm cradling her lower thigh and the other hand resting on her hip, which gives him entry from the side and rear at once. We know this one in our glossary as Kneeling Sideways Doggy Style, and the twist through her spine is real, so we settle into the rotation gradually rather than forcing it.

Why it's a favorite: What earns this a spot over standard doggy is that the sideways twist genuinely changes the angle, not just the look of it. It's not a novelty variant we did once for the sake of variety — the sensation is different enough that we come back to it on its own merits.

Lying Reverse Cowgirl

He lies flat on his back with his legs extended, and she reclines on top of him face-up, her back resting against his chest. Her feet plant outside his legs with one knee bent, one hand gripping his arm near his head for stability — it's the setup our glossary lists as Lying Reverse Cowgirl.

Why it's a favorite: Her front stays completely open the entire time, which makes this one of the best positions on the list for a rose toy — she can use it on herself while he reaches around to her breasts at the same time, both of them with a free hand. We always set a pillow beside his head rather than under it, so she has somewhere to actually rest her own head without straining her neck through the whole thing.

Lounging Lap Dance

He leans back with his hands clasped behind his head and his knees bent, while she sits upright on his lap facing away, her back resting against his chest. Her legs extend down alongside his, hands resting at her sides — with his hands out of play, she's the one setting the rhythm entirely, which is exactly what our glossary entry for Lounging Lap Dance describes.

Why it's a favorite: This one's a favorite for how little it asks of him — hands behind his head, completely passive, nothing to think about — while she controls everything from the hips up. It's the position we reach for on a lazy night when he wants to just lie back and let her do the work.

Standing Doggy

Both of us stand for this one: she bends forward at the waist to roughly horizontal, arms held bent out in front rather than braced on anything, while he stands close behind with his knees slightly flexed, gripping her hips and buttocks with both hands. With no wall or furniture involved, her hamstrings and lower back do all the supporting work, so we keep the fold shallow at first if that stretch is a reach. It's the standing version of Standing Doggy in our glossary — and there are actually two ways we like to do it, shown below: the base upright fold, and a lower, closer variant where she folds further and he closes the distance.

Standing rear entry with a forward fold and no wall or furniture for support.

A lower, closer variant of standing doggy with a deeper forward fold.
Why it's a favorite: Both versions earn their place here for different reasons — the upright fold is the one we reach for when there's no time or space for anything more elaborate, and the lower variant trades some of that ease for a tighter, closer feel. Having both in rotation means we're not stuck picking one depth and sticking with it for the whole session.

Supported Dancer

Both partners stand face to face in a close embrace, faces together. She lifts one leg with the knee bent and hooks it around his hip, and he supports her with a hand cupped under her buttock — with both of his feet and her standing leg sharing the load, it's what our glossary calls Supported Dancer, and a comparatively steady entry point into the standing Dancer family.

Why it's a favorite: This is the one we reach for when we want standing sex without the drama of balancing on nothing — it's genuinely stable compared to most of the standing family, which makes it a good option for a spontaneous moment when there isn't time or patience for much setup.

Planted Bull

He leans back with his knees bent while her hips rest in his lap, one leg hooked over his forearm and the other extended along the floor. Her body twists until her chest faces the floor, head and shoulders resting on the ground away from him — it's the twisted-away setup our glossary lists as Planted Bull. The twist through her spine is considerable, so we rotate into it slowly and come out the moment it strains.

Why it's a favorite: Nothing else on this list feels quite like the angle this one gives — the twisted-away position is genuinely novel rather than a small variation on something else we already do. It takes a slow warm-up to get into comfortably, but the angle is worth the patience.

Wrapped Missionary

She lies flat on her back while he lies on top between her legs, propped on his forearms with his legs extended behind him and their faces close together. Her legs wrap up around his waist and lower back, one foot hooked high near his buttocks, hands gripping his upper back — full-body contact throughout, which is what our glossary entry for Wrapped Missionary describes as a close-contact variant on standard missionary.

Why it's a favorite: This is the one we come back to for reliable, close, unfussy intimacy — no toys, no elaborate setup, just full-body contact and eye contact the whole way through. It's what we reach for when nothing fancy is called for and we just want to be close.
