The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run the site and, if you sign up, send a newsletter. We don't sell personal data. Our analytics are cookieless. Nothing here is unusual for a small independent publication, but given the subject matter, we know discretion matters more here than on most sites — that shaped these choices.
What we collect
- Newsletter signup: if you subscribe, we collect your email address to send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we don't share this address with third parties for their own marketing.
- Site analytics: we use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track individuals across sites. It gives us aggregate information — which pages get read, roughly how much traffic we get — not who you are.
- Nothing else, currently. We don't run ad-tracking pixels, third-party marketing cookies, or session recording on this site.
How we store it
Site hosting and analytics run through Vercel. Newsletter addresses are stored with whichever email service we use to send that newsletter (noted here once that integration is live). We don't maintain our own separate database of reader information beyond that.
How to opt out or delete your data
Unsubscribe links are included in every newsletter email. If you want your email address removed from our list outside of that, or have any other privacy question, reach out via our contact page and we'll handle it directly.
Discretion, specifically
We're aware that for a site like this, "who has your email address" and "what shows up in your inbox" both matter more than usual. Newsletter emails are sent under a neutral sender name and subject line rather than anything explicit — the same logic our discreet shipping guide covers for product delivery applies here too.
Children's privacy
Clove is an 18+ site and is not directed at, and does not knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
