Why this page matters
In the US, the FTC requires that affiliate relationships be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, near the affiliate links themselves, not just buried in a footer page like this one. In practice that means:
- A short disclosure near the top of any review or article containing affiliate links (not just this standalone page).
- Plain language — "we may earn a commission" rather than vague legal phrasing.
- The disclosure appearing before the reader clicks the link, not after.
Our editorial policy
Most of our buying guides are research-based — built from manufacturer specifications, publicly available material and safety information, and category comparisons, not hands-on in-house testing. We say so directly rather than implying otherwise. Where we do publish genuine hands-on reviews, the byline says so plainly ("Tested by the Clove founders" rather than "Researched by Clove") — see our full list of what we actually own for exactly which products that covers, and how we test for exactly what that testing involves. Affiliate relationships never determine which products get covered or what we say about them — if something doesn't hold up, we say so, commission or not.
